| September 2016 QC Interfaith Newsletter QCI Celebrates Quad Cities Interfaith Day and 30 years of creating a more just society! Sunday, September 11, 2016, will now be known as Quad Cities Interfaith Day. Official proclamations were given by each of the cities to celebrate the good that QCI has brought to the communities. Our own celebration was held at The Freight House in Le Claire Park on Sunday afternoon with great food, fellowship and futuristic thinking as we prepare for another successful 30 years! We are grateful for our event sponsor: The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers as well as The Crane and Pelican for catering food! Riding the River Bandits' Giant Wheel for 8 Hours! Local Community members will ride the Bandits' Giant Wheel to raise money for the Scott County Mental Health Court. GoFundMe Candidates Forum - presented by QCI Join us on Thursday, September 22 at 6:00 pm for a candidates forum at the UFCW Hall 2411 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport. Candidates for the Scott County Sheriff and Board of Supervisors will be in attendance. A great way to celebrate our 30th ! Buy an Ad in our 2016-17 Community Report Each year we unveil our community report & ad book at our annual individual donor breakfast. This year's event is Thursday, November 10th. It's a special year to show your support for QCI's justice work in the QCA . The QCI Annual Report will be distributed to our 26 member congregations/organizations, as well as the 300 local community, business and religious leaders and elected officials who will attend our 8th Annual Fundraising Breakfast. In addition, the report and your ad will be featured on our website , Facebook page and distributed throughout the year. A Journey in Search of One's Identity - Film Viewing Join us on for a showing of the film, ABRAZOS, directed by Luis Argueta. ABRAZOS - The transformational journey of 14 U.S. citizen children, sons and daughters of unauthorized migrants, who travel from Minnesota to Guatemala to meet their grandparents -and in some instances, their siblings- for the first time. When: Saturday, September 24, 3:00 pm Where: The Spanish Mennonite Church - 613 3rd Street, Moline A Funeral for Illinois Gamaliel of Illinois/Iowa mourned the death of Illinois programs that helped our most vulnerable. We weep for those who have suffered under these cuts. Cuts in education , services for elderly, the disabled and our children. We call on the Governor and legislature to do what is just. Mark Calendars now for One to One Training Saturday Oct 8th Edwards Congregational, UCC in Davenport will host our fall One to One Training for congregation and community members. QCI will train local leaders on our most important organizing tool: the one to one. What is a One-to-One? It is an intentional conversation with someone you want to know better. Community ID Survey QCI and Xlpor intern Christian Marin hosts a meeting with members of St. Mary's Church in Spring to talk about establishing a Community ID for Scott County. QCI and St Mary's leaders continue the work for Community ID. The task force is building a strategy on how we can make this happen in our area.
